But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation— if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. – Colossians 1:23
Easter reminds us that God has already done the work to make us blameless before him. But what strikes me is this reoccurring theme, to not move away from what we already have.
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. – Ephesians 6:13
We are given the armour God, not so much to charge into battle, but to keep standing in his victory.
On Christ the solid rock I stand all other ground is sinking sand… – The Solid Rock
Not be allured into wandering onto, or worse still, building our lives upon “other grounds”. Instead, to continually hear, understand, heed and live out God’s word – so as to build wisely on a foundation of rock, not being washed away when waters rise, and waves hit.
And by grace we’ll stand on Your promises… – Speak O Lord
We work hard to do our part to stand. But even that is by his grace.
No power of hell, no scheme of man, can ever pluck me from his hand, til he returns or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I’ll stand… – In Christ Alone
And by his power. Therefore, we have the assurance. Though we cannot trust ourselves (how easy it would be for us to flee as the disciples did on the night of his betrayal!) he will give us sufficient grace to stand until the very end.
